Essential Kitchen: Fostering Community Partnerships

May 23, 2024 Eileen Daspro

Queens, New York

I was the Project Lead for the Essential Kitchen Team. At first, I was nervous to be the project lead because it was my first time managing a consulting team. After meeting the team, my nerves stopped and I became more excited than nervous. Our different skill sets and personalities were invaluable to our success. Our team worked through our project setbacks with laughter and creative problem solving. We worked every week on finding new ways to meet our client’s needs and help her business grow. I learned invaluable skills related to leadership, delegation, and project management. Our client, Dianna, CEO of Essential Kitchen is an influential social entrepreneur and community organizer based in the Queens, New York area. We created a presentation with consulting recommendations for her commercial kitchen. Our recommendations stemmed from our market research we conducted over the year. Our suggestions were for the kitchen’s website, social media, and overarching marketing needs. When we presented our recommendations, Dianna was so grateful and excited to implement our ideas. Our team absolutely loved our time in NYC! Three out of the four of us had never visited before, and we were subway pros by the end of the trip. Some memories of the trip include: rowing in the central park boats, visiting the 9/11 Memorial Museum, walking on the Brooklyn bridge, attending a Yankees game, eating pizza/bagels, and visiting Wall Street. Our team grew in our professional and interpersonal skills immensely over the course of the year and made friendships and memories together that will last for years to come. Thank you, SIBC!
